While there are no official boundaries, Southeast Florida comprises most of the southeastern part of the state that borders the Atlantic Ocean. From Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie, it stretches southward through West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and into the Florida Keys.

Zone 10a Palm Trees and Bamboo

This northern section of Southeast Florida straddles a warm, humid, subtropical climate and a tropical climate. It encompasses Indian River County, St. Lucie County and Martin County. These areas, along with the very northern part of Palm Beach County around Jupiter, are designated in USDA Hardiness Zone 10a.

Summers are usually hot, with temperatures averaging in the low 90s. Winters are usually mild to warm, with average temperatures around 70°F, but they’ve been known to dip to the mid 20s between November and March.
