Pembroke Pines Wholesale Bamboo

Pembroke Pines Wholesale Bamboo

If you have a landscaping project that requires a tall and majestic species of clumping bamboo, we invite you to check out our Pembroke Pines wholesale bamboo and turn your landscape into a lavish tropical paradise.

Palmco specializes in non-invasive clumping bamboos that are well-suited to the Florida climate and are some of the most impressive bamboos in the world.

Many of our plants can be used as focal points while others can be used to create privacy screens, hedges and windbreaks within a commercial or residential landscape. Our Bambusa and Dendrocalamus species of subtropical clumping bamboo are native to China, Indonesia, Burma, Thailand, India, Tibet and elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

They produce new shoots in summer and fall and branch out, slowly enlarging the plant’s circumference, during the winter and early spring.

In just three to four years, many of these species will reach their full height and produce beautiful canopies that will rival any shade tree. In comparison, an oak tree can take 40 years to reach its full potential. Here are a few of Palmco’s tallest varieties of clumping bamboo, ranked in descending order by typical height:

Black Asper

This staggering specimen from Indonesia can reach skyscraper heights of 80 to 100 feet.

Dendrocalamus asper ‘Hitam’ has 10-inch to 12-inch diameter brown/black culms that are covered in a soft and velvety brownish fur. Although it can withstand frost, the gentle giant prefers warmth and humidity. Black Asper is an impressive ornamental bamboo that is also highly valued for its timber.

Oldhamii

Often referred to as Giant Timber Bamboo, Bambusa oldhamii is not a giant or a timber bamboo, but can grow to 60 feet tall with large 4- to 5-inch diameter culms. When grown in a shady environment, new culms are a darker green with silver powder. In sunny conditions, they will have an orange hue. This is one of the straightest growing bamboo species and one of the most attractive and economical screening and wind barrier varieties. The towering bamboo makes lovely “bamboo sounds” when swaying in the wind.

Buddha Belly

This delightful species has swollen culms that look like small Buddha bellies. Bambusa ventricosa ‘Kimmei’ starts out green, but turn a beautiful golden-yellow with green stripes. This variety may behave differently based on where it is grown. In Florida, Kimmei can grow to a 50-foot giant with large, straight, zigzagging 2- to 3-inch diameter culms and is ideal when you need to block a view.

Once established, it is both wet and drought tolerant.

Golden Hawaiian

Bambusa vulgaris ‘Vittata’  is an extremely beautiful variety that features bright yellow culms with random green vertical stripes that resemble green enamel paint. It’s capable of growing to a height of 50 feet with 4-inch diameter culms within three years and its easy propagation makes it the most common ornamental bamboo planted in the tropics. Golden Hawaiian Bamboo is cold-sensitive and is susceptible to frost damage at 27° to 30° F.

This variety will be a focal point in any landscape.
