Wholesale Bamboo In Hollywood Florida
Palmco is one of Florida’s premier providers of palm trees and bamboo.
If you are looking for wholesale bamboo in Hollywood Florida, we can meet your landscaping requirements.
We offer 16 spectacular varieties of tropical and subtropical clumping bamboo and are one of the largest palm and bamboo plantations in North America with over 600 acres in production.
Palmco grows only the non-invasive clumping bamboo varieties, so you don’t have to worry about the bamboo taking over the property.
Clumpers grow outward from the center.
Due to their slow spread rate, they grow naturally within a fairly tight, contained circular area, making them a wonderful low-maintenance alternative to the more aggressive running bamboos.
Bamboo for Hedges
Clumping bamboos vary in color from golds to greens.
Quickly reaching mature heights of 10 to 20 feet, they make particularly lovely hedges. Some of the nicest hedge varieties we grow include:
Alphonse Karr Bamboo (Bambusa multiplex ‘Alphonse Karr’)
One of the best hedge bamboos, Alphonse Karr is a dense Chinese variety that grows very erect to 20 to 25 feet. The 1- inch diameter culms are a vivid yellow with random green stripes. New shoots and culms are often pink. Alphonse Karr will give a golden glow to any garden. It has low water requirements and is extremely cold-hardy once established.
Golden Goddess (Bambusa multiplex golden goddess)
Golden Goddess is particularly suitable for smaller lots or for containers on the patio or around the pool. The semi-dwarf bamboo also makes a beautiful (but not more than 6 to 12 foot) privacy hedge when planted four to eight feet apart. It has very small, delicate leaves and densely packed 1/4-inch canes that are yellowish in color. This bamboo is very hardy down to 15°F and turns golden as it ages in full sun.
Seabreeze Bamboo (Bambusa malingensis)
Seabreeze is a tough, bushy and very fast growing Chinese variety that can reach heights up to 40 feet. The 2 1/2-inch diameter canes have a distinctive bluish-white tint in each section. This is a very hardy clumping bamboo that can withstand temperatures down to 20°F. It is drought-tolerant, salt-tolerant and an excellent performer in Florida’s planting zones of 9a and up. When mature, it forms a graceful umbrella-shaped arch and is perfect for hedges and privacy screens. Its canes also make lovely “bamboo sounds” when the wind blows.
Caring For Bamboo
Clumping bamboos need loose, well-draining and slightly acidic soil.
They prefer a location that gets at least 5 hours of sunlight every day and need about one inch of water per week. When the leaves curl or fold up, this is usually a sign that the bamboo needs water.
If the leaves start to yellow and drop, it may be getting too much water.
You can fertilize outdoor bamboo with a small amount of slow or controlled release fertilizer at planting. The golden rule is “a little and often.” Three to four applications per year of slow-release high nitrogen fertilizer is adequate.
