Deerfield Beach Bamboo Wholesale
There are two general categories of bamboo that can be described by their growth patterns – the running varieties and the clumping varieties.
At Palmco on Pine Island, Florida, we grow only the cold-hardy clumping bamboos.
If you are looking to buy high-quality bamboo for a landscaping project, large or small, it would be our pleasure to help you find the best bamboo at wholesale prices in Deerfield Beach that will meet your needs.
Established in 1984 on the 18-mile-long by 2-mile-wide Pine Island, Palmco has over 600 acres of the most robust palms and bamboos, ranging from the exotic and rare to the most abundant and widely used.
Our 16 beautiful varieties of clumping bamboo range from mid-sized to giant bamboos.
We nurture every plant on our moderately warm, fertile environment to produce only the healthiest, strongest palms and bamboos.
If you have hesitated over whether or not to use bamboo in your landscape for fear that it will run rampant and be impossible to control, we hope you will consider non-invasive tropical and subtropical clumping varieties of bamboo. They will stay in one place and do not spread more than a few inches per year.
Another plus is that they are capable of tolerating cooler climates, including short periods of frost.
Here are a few of our favorite varieties:
Angel Mist Bamboo
Sometimes called Ghost Bamboo, Dendrocalamus minor ‘Amoenus’ is a very rare mid-sized Chinese bamboo that’s one of the smallest of the Dendrocalamus species. Growing to a typical height of 35 feet, it has 3-inch diameter pale lime green culms with dark green stripes and a waxy powdery covering. Angel Mist can handle a variety of soil and weather conditions. It makes a colorful attention-getting centerpiece and is ideal for use as a privacy screen. This is a living alternative to a fence, or a driveway planting.
Dwarf Buddha Belly Bamboo
This dwarf bamboo that originated in Burma has very unusual bulges above and below each cane’s internodes that may make you think it was designed by Dr. Seuss. There is no other bamboo like Bambusa vulgaris ‘Wamin’ in the world, and the plant is definitely an attention-getter. Fortunately, it produces the most consistent bellies in warm, humid climates such as Florida’s. This clumping bamboo grows to a height of 12 to 15 feet and has 4-inch diameter culms. It is somewhat cold-sensitive and may suffer frost damage at 27o to 30o, but the roots will not be damaged.
Graceful Bamboo
As the name suggests, this Chinese variety, also called Slender Weavers (or Bambusa textilis gracilis) is the most graceful of all bamboos. It has few lower branches on mature culms, so its attractive 1-inch diameter canes can be seen without pruning the plant. Graceful Bamboos have an upright growth pattern and are very well-behaved.
Growing to a typical height of 25 feet, it will fit nicely in any city or country tropical garden, including small, narrow yards.
Nana Bamboo
Originating from Thailand, this stunning bamboo is a beautiful ornamental with very small leaves, an upright growth habit and thick culms. Bambusa nana is naturally branchless near the ground and tends to arch at the top, creating a feathery, delicate umbrella-like canopy. Nana’s medium height (to 25 feet) makes a beautiful statement in any landscape.
