Bamboo will dramatically enhance your landscape.

We grow 16 varieties of clumping bamboos which are non-invasive, well-suited to the Florida climate, and are some of the most impressive bamboos in the world.

Many of our palm trees and bamboos can be used as focal points while others are used to create symmetry and asymmetrical dynamic qualities within a commercial or residential landscape.

How to Use Clumping Bamboo.

Clumping bamboo is ideal for defining spaces on large properties. Build a wall between a swimming pool and playground or create a fresh green fence that is alive. Use it to screen off garages and work areas or to block an unpleasant view.

All within a few short years.

Some varieties make excellent container plants for patios and poolside plantings. Tall, erect varieties are beautiful when used as avenue or driveway plantings. A specimen clump of bamboo can also create a spectacular focal point in your landscape, but it’s important to allow them enough space so the plant can be seen to its best advantage.

Consider one of these versatile, manageable and stunning bamboos for your next landscaping project:

Dwarf Buddha Belly Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris ‘Wamin’)

You may think this dwarf bamboo that originated in Burma was designed by Dr. Seuss! There is no other bamboo like it in the world, and the plant is definitely an attention-getter. There are very unusual bulges above and below each culm’s internodes that are called “bellies.” Fortunately, it produces the most consistent bellies in warm, humid climates such as Florida’s. This variety grows to a height of 12 to 15 feet and has 4-inch diameter culms. It is somewhat cold-sensitive and may suffer frost damage below 30°, although the roots won’t be damaged.

Oldhamii Bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii)

This variety is sometimes referred to as Giant Timber Bamboo, but it is not a giant or a timber bamboo. When grown in a shady environment, new culms are a darker green with silver powder. In sunny conditions they will have more of an orange hue. Oldhamii bamboo can grow 50 to 60 feet tall with large 4- to 5-inch diameter culms. It is one of the straightest growing bamboo species. It is also one of the most attractive and economical screening and wind barrier varieties. It is tolerant of a variety of climates and can handle frost as well as short wet and dry spells.

The towering bamboo makes lovely “bamboo sounds” when swaying in the wind.

Timor Black Bamboo (Bambusa lako)

Timor Black Bamboo is one of the most striking landscaping bamboos. It comes from the Indonesian island of Timor. The mature plant has shiny purple/black culms with thin green stripes and medium bright green leaves. The culms are about 3 inches in diameter and this variety grows to about 30 feet outside the tropics. Leaves grow only on the upper half of the plant, so it will work well where height is needed and still enable you to enjoy the beautiful culms.
