Boca Raton Bamboo Wholesale

Whether you are thinking of incorporating a tropical touch into an existing landscape or are designing a landscape for a new project, small or large, Palmco invites you to consider the many varieties of Boca Raton wholesale bamboo plants we offer.

Boasting over 600 acres in production, Palmco is one of the largest palm and bamboo plantations in North America, serving clients in the contiguous U.S. and abroad.

We nurture every plant in our warm, fertile environment on Pine Island, Florida to produce only the healthiest, strongest palms and bamboos.

There are two general types of bamboo that are best described by the way they grow – the running varieties and the clumping varieties.

At Palmco, we grow 16 species of the clumping varieties.

The Bambusa variety is a tropical and subtropical species that is ideal for hot, southern climates yet cold-hardy to about +20° F, and the Dendrocalamus variety, is a genus that includes some of the tallest, most impressive bamboos in the world.

The following descriptions are just a few of our favorite clumping bamboos.

Emerald (Bambusa mutabilis)

Sometimes called Emerald Timber Bamboo, this variety is the one that most people picture when they think of bamboo. It is elegant, tall, straight, and new culms have a whitish-blue waxy tint and turn a muted green color as they age. It grows in a nice tight clump that is attractive and creates a dense privacy screen. Emerald Bamboo is cold-hardy down to 18°F and makes an excellent ornamental bamboo. Its culms are about 2-inches in diameter and it grows to a stately 30 to 40 feet.

Golden Goddess (Bambusa multiplex golden goddess)

Golden Goddess is particularly well-suited to small lots or for containers on the patio or around the pool. The semi-dwarf bamboo also makes a beautiful (typically no more than 10′ OA) privacy hedge when planted four to eight feet apart. It has very small, delicate leaves that are densely packed 1/4-inch canes that are yellowish in color. This bamboo is very hardy down to 15°F.

Seabreeze (Bambusa malingensis)

Seabreeze bamboo, from Southern China, is a tough, bushy and a very fast growing variety that can reach heights up to 40 feet. The 2 1/2-inch diameter canes have a distinctive bluish-white tint in each section. This is a very hardy clumping bamboo that can withstand temperatures down to 20°F. It is drought-tolerant, salt-tolerant and an excellent performer in Florida’s planting zones of 9a and up. When mature, it forms a graceful umbrella-shaped arch and is ideal for hedges, windbreaks and privacy screens. The canes also make lovely “bamboo sounds” when the wind blows.

Black Asper (Dendrocalamus asper ‘Hitam’)

If you have a lot of room and need a very tall bamboo, Black Asper from Indonesia can reach amazing heights of 80 to 100 feet. This species has 10-inch to 12-inch diameter brown/black culms that are covered in a soft and velvety brownish fur. Although this species can withstand frost, it prefers warmth and humidity. Black Asper is an impressive ornamental bamboo that is also highly valued for its timber.
