Delray Beach Wholesale Bamboo
If you’re designing a brand new project in Delray Beach or adding a touch of the tropics to an existing landscape, Palmco offers 15 stunning species of wholesale clumping bamboo plants that will meet any specification.
With over 600 acres in production on Pine Island, Florida, Palmco is one of the largest palm and bamboo plantations in North America. You’ll find everything from the most prolific species of clumping bamboo – Seabreeze – to the variety that quickly produces the largest diameter culms (3” to 4”) – Oldhamii. Our clumping bamboo varieties are well-suited to the Florida climate.
Apart from their beauty, one of the best features of clumping bamboos is that they are non-invasive. They don’t spread out horizontally more than a few inches each year, making them the ideal low-maintenance alternative to larger, more aggressive, running bamboos.
Use clumping bamboo to define separate spaces on a large property. Build a bamboo wall between a swimming pool and playground. Use it to screen off garages or to block an objectionable view. Some varieties make excellent container plants for patios and poolside planting, while tall, erect varieties are beautiful as driveway and avenue plantings.
Popular Varieties of Clumping Bamboo for Zones 8B-10
Alphonse Karr Bamboo – If you want to give your landscape a golden glow, this dense Chinese beauty, sometimes called Golden Hedge Bamboo, fits the part. Bambusa multiplex ‘Alphonse Karr’ grows to 20 to 25 feet with 1” diameter canes that are bright yellow with vertical dark green stripes. New shoots and culms often have a light magenta tint. The striking colors make it a spectacular hedge or centerpiece planting. Alphonse Karr Bamboo has low water requirements. Once established, it can tolerate cold weather as low as 15° F, but thrives in hot climates.
Seabreeze – Bambusa malingensis is a Palmco customer favorite. Native to Southern China, it’s one of the most prolific species of clumping bamboo, quickly reaching heights of 35 to 40 feet to form a beautiful screen. The 2 ½” diameter canes have a distinctive bluish-white blush in each section. When mature, it forms a graceful umbrella-shaped arch and is ideal for hedges and windbreaks. Seabreeze Bamboo is salt-tolerant, drought-tolerant, and an excellent performer in Florida’s planting zones of 9a and up, especially those exposed to coastal winds. The canes also make those recognizable creaking “bamboo sounds” in the breeze. Seabreeze is a very hardy clumping bamboo that can withstand temperatures down to 20°F.
Tropical Blue Bamboo – This is a popular clumper from China that features light green leaves and nicely spaced thin-walled culms with a mystical pale blue powdery bloom. Bambusa chungii is sometimes called Blue Timber Bamboo or White Bamboo. Its 35-foot height and 3” diameter canes grow upright and will create a dense privacy hedge. Very hardy to 20°F, the colors of Tropical Blue Bamboo contrast nicely with the dark green culms of Seabreeze Bamboo or Oldhamii Bamboo and the bright yellow culms of Asian Lemon and Golden Hawaiian Bamboo.
