Growing Palms in Zone 10A

Whether you need one spectacular focal specimen for an exclusive client or several hundred palms for a large resort, Palmco can fill your design specifications. Here are just a few examples:

  • Areca Palm – Palmco is a leading supplier of field-grown Arecas in a variety of sizes. The dramatic clustering palm features many trunks that spring up from the base of the plant. Its fluffy, fine-textured fronds give it a lush, full look. Arecas can reach heights of 15 to 20 feet, making them well-suited to privacy screens, hedges and landscape backdrops. The canopy of these palms can grow 8 to 10 feet in diameter, so give them enough space to grow properly.

  • Bottle Palm – This stunning accent palm is ideal for tropical gardens or sheltered entrance areas, and you will often see it in the center of a circular driveway. The Bottle Palm gets its name from its uniquely shaped swollen trunk that resembles a brandy or cola bottle. It grows slowly to about 5 to 7 feet, and is also an elegant container plant. This is a much sought-after palm that commands nice prices.

  • Canary Palm – This impressively tall palm, also known as the Canary Island Date Palm and the Pineapple Palm, can reach over 60 feet in height with a trunk as thick as a bridge support. It makes an impressive statement with a massive ball on the top of the tree. It has a massive canopy and caliper, and the majestic shaft needs to be manicured to maintain a nice appearance.

  • Triangle Palm – When you need an attention-getting palm, the unusual shape and coloring of this specimen should fit the bill. Instead of the usual crownshaft, it has overlapping leaf bases that form in three vertical columns on the main stem, giving it a triangular shape. The leaves are a unique powdery blue-grey and arch gracefully upward from the trunk. Growing slowly to 20 or 25 feet, it is drought-tolerant, cold-tolerant and self-cleaning.
