Palmco is one of the largest palm plantations in North America. We specialize in growing Florida Fancy (FF) grade wholesale palms, primarily for planting zones in the southeastern U.S.

We are headquartered in the sleepy farming community of Bokeelia on Pine Island, where the surrounding waters keep the temperatures perfect for growing palms and bamboo nearly year-round.

Our state of the art “green” growing process ensures that our plants grow healthy and strong and give our customers the quality they demand. Palmco palms can be found at many prestigious locations around the world.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Palm Tree

St. Augustine’s weather, like most of the south Atlantic region, is usually mild in winter and hot and humid in summer, placing it in USDA Hardiness Zone 9A.

When choosing the perfect palm tree for your residential development, resort hotel, golf course or avenue plantings, keep the following four factors in mind:

Mature size – Those small container-sized palm trees you see at your local nursery are not going to stay that size forever. They could reach heights of 50 to 80 feet and overpower your landscape. Our graceful Royal Palms, for example, can reach up to 60 or 70 feet tall and 5 to 10 feet wide. Keep your overall design in mind to avoid having palms interfere with power lines or underground conduits or damage buildings and roofs.

Temperature – Most palms dislike frost and freezing weather. Exposing them for any length of time to cold temperatures will weaken the tree and make it vulnerable to pests and diseases. One of our favorite bold and beautiful palms, the Canary Palm, is a great example of a cold-hardy palm; it can tolerate lows into the 20s, including frosts, with no visible damage and would make a spectacular statement in your St. Augustine landscape.

Sunlight – It’s a myth that all palm trees adore the full sun. Some varieties will flourish if you provide them with shadier conditions. Others, like our Chinese Fan Palm, are easier to please and can be happy in shade, partial shade or sun. This lush palm is a favorite in Florida landscapes with its wide-spreading crown and bright green fan-shaped leaves. Palmco offers single, double, triple and multi Chinese Fan configurations.

Water – Another myth is that all palm trees love arid, desert-like conditions. In the wild, most of them actually crave humidity and grow only near continuous supplies of water. For the healthiest palms, be prepared to saturate the soil of newly planted trees to 18 inches deep, watering twice daily until they adapt to their new environment. If you don’t provide your palm trees with enough water, the tips of the leaves will start turning brown.
