Best Palms for Englewood

Since Englewood is located in USDA Zone 10A, it is important to choose specimens from our wide selection that are perfect for that locale. Zone 10A encompasses most of the southeastern part of the state that borders the Atlantic Ocean, stretching southward from Port St Lucie and Vero Beach into the Florida Keys.

It also includes southwest Florida, home to Palmco, which borders the Gulf of Mexico from the southern part of Sarasota County, through Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, continuing southward through Cape Coral, Naples, Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Marco Island.

There are many palms that flourish in this Zone. So, these are some of the best palms for Englewood:

  • Areca– We are a leading supplier of field-grown Arecas in a variety of sizes. This dramatic, clustering palm features many trunks that spring up from the base of the plant. Sometimes called the Feather Palm, its fluffy, fine-textured fronds give it a lush, full look. Arecas can grow to 20 feet tall and 10 feet in diameter, making them well-suited to privacy screens, hedges, and landscape backdrops.
  • Lady If you are looking for a palm tree that loves partial shade, the Lady Palm can handle it. In fact, it actually needs shade in order for its fronds to stay a luscious dark green. This shrub-like clumping palm will reach about 7 to 8 feet tall, so it is well-suited for low screening, single specimen plantings, container plantings, borders, and beds.
  • Chinese Fan We offer single, double, triple and multi Chinese Fan configurations. For customers who want a stylized look and feel, consider putting a Diamond Cut or our Palmco Cut on the trunk. This palm grows well and can withstand temps slightly below 0°F for limited time periods.
  • Paurotis– The Paurotis, or the Everglades Palm, originates in South America but has been in Florida long enough to be considered a native species. It is capable of reaching heights of 20 to 30 feet with a canopy spread of 15 feet in diameter. This versatile clustering palm is dense and thickly covered almost to the ground, making it ideal for privacy screening and hedge applications. In late spring it blooms with white flowers and half inch fruits that start off green, turn orange, and then go black when ripe. It will add visual appeal to all your landscape design installments.
