Bamboo Nursery South Florida
Visit Palmco’s wholesale bamboo nursery on Pine Island in South Florida to find beautiful varieties that will help you create stunning privacy screens and dazzling focal-point plantings in your landscape.
Established in 1984 in Bokeelia, Florida, we have 600-plus acres planted in the choicest palms and bamboos, ranging from exotic and rare varieties to the most familiar and widely used. Our clumping bamboos will help you create privacy and beauty within a few growing seasons.
Consider one of these versatile, eye-catching, and fast-growing bamboos for your next project:
- Asian Lemon Bamboo is a great choice when your landscape calls for areas of eye-popping color. When mature, the culms (or canes) turn a bright yellow (lemon-tinted) color with green stripes. Up until that point, they are generally pink or peach with the same green stripes. Bambusa eutuldoides ‘Viridivittata’ is an attractive and strong bamboo species and is revered for its exceptional height and beauty. The Asian Lemon is frost tolerant and can withstand temperatures down to 20 °F.
- Alphonse Karr Bamboo is one of the best hedge bamboos. It is a dense Chinese variety that grows very erect to 20 to 25 feet. The 1- inch diameter culms of Bambusa multiplex ‘Alphonse Karr’ are bright yellow with random green stripes and give a golden glow to any landscape. It has low water requirements and is extremely cold-hardy once established down to 15 °F. Alphonse Karr does very well from Florida’s east coast along the Gulf Coast to Texas and up to the Carolina Coast.
- Golden Hawaiian Bamboo, also known as Painted Bamboo, is an extremely beautiful and colorful ornamental bamboo in any setting. Its vivid yellow culms have random green vertical stripes that look like they were painted on. Bambusa vulgaris ‘Vittata’ is easily propagated and capable of growing to a height of 35 to 50 feet with 4-inch diameter culms in about 3 years, but is cold-sensitive and vulnerable to frost damage at 27° to 30° F.
- Tropical Blue Bamboo is a popular clumper from China with light green leaves and nicely spaced thin-walled culms that have a mystical pale blue powdery bloom. Bambusa chungii is sometimes called Blue Timber Bamboo or White Bamboo. Its 35-foot height and 3” diameter canes grow upright and will create a dense privacy hedge. Very hardy to 21 °F, the colors of Tropical Blue Bamboo contrast nicely with the bright yellow culms of Asian Lemon and Golden Hawaiian Bamboo.
