Bamboo Choices

Obviously, there are hundreds of options for bamboo. At Palmco, though, we have made it our goal to ensure that all of our bamboo choices are the noninvasive clumping species. This means that you will have the ability to easily maintain the bamboo you install in your clients’ residential and commercial locations. Here are some of our expert’s favorite bamboos:

Asian Lemon. Native to Southern China, this bamboo can withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit and is a stunning specimen with eye-popping colors. Lemon yellow culms are accented by occasional green stripes and dark green leaves, and new culms have pink and peach tones. The tight clumping bamboo reaches heights of up to 25 feet, which makes it great for screening. It’s a great option as a centerpiece, enabling your visitors to see the colorful new culms.

Nana. Thanks to its medium height, this bamboo from Thailand is perfect for any landscape installation. Its thick culms and small leaves give it a unique appearance when coupled with the fact that it arches towards the top making it resemble an umbrella. When all the canes are clumped together, they create a broad canopy. We suggest it be used as a centerpiece or specimen as it can reach 25 feet in height.

Golden Goddess. Used mainly for screening and topiary purposes, this is a fast-growing bamboo that is easy to maintain. As a small bamboo, only hitting 10 feet tall, it is excellent for use in smaller spaces and it’s perfect for container planting on patios. But if you use it for privacy purposes, we suggest you plant it 4 to 8 feet apart as it will fill the space in quickly.

Seabreeze. Originally from Southern China, Seabreeze makes a great windbreaker or screening option for your landscaping projects. It works really well in the coastal areas of Florida and can handle temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Considered a mid-sized bamboo, it can still reach 40 feet in height. And, because there are very few lower branches, you’ll be able to admire Seabreeze’s distinctive canes. It is salt- and drought-tolerant and can be kept at any height you want or let loose to achieve its full potential.
