Palm Tree Nursery In Florida

Palm Tree Nursery Florida

Boasting over 600 acres in production, Palmco is one of the largest palm plantations in North America.

We raise over 20 species of the choicest palms with a dedication to stellar customer service that is recognized throughout the industry.

We welcome you to visit our palm tree nursery in Florida whenever you are near our Pine Island location to find the ideal natural and healthy palms for your customer’s landscape.

Pine Island is ideal for growing palm trees due to its location as a barrier island.

The surrounding waters keep the temperatures perfect nearly year-round.

Palms in this environment tend to reach their highest potential in height, caliper and green fronds.

With our state-of-the-art, fully automated irrigation systems and extensive nutritional programs, we are able to grow and deliver the best palms.

Before you start picking out palms, we would like to explain the three grades of trees as they are defined in the Florida Grades and Standards Manual:

Florida Fancy (FF)

Is “an exceptionally healthy and vigorous palm that is perfectly formed and foliated (subject to the natural growth of the species).” Our trees are Florida Fancy trees, which are the most desirable grade.

However, the prices of these trees may not fit all of your customers’ budgets.

Florida No. 1

Is “a healthy and vigorous palm that is well formed and foliated (subject to the natural growth of the species).” Grade #1 trees are perfectly acceptable to many customers and are more budget-friendly.

Florida No. 2

Is “a healthy palm that is fairly well formed with fair foliage quality (subject to the natural growth of the species).” This grade of tree is not used as frequently as FF and #1 grade trees. Below are descriptions of a few of the most popular species of palm trees we grow at Palmco.

Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens) This dramatic palm tree from Madagascar is a clustering palm, meaning that many trunks spring up from the base of the plant, giving it a lush full look. It has fluffy, fine-textured but dense fronds with canes that resemble clumping bamboo culms. It is sometimes called the Butterfly Palm or the Feather Palm.

You will see it everywhere in South Florida. This palm can reach heights of 15 to 20 feet, making it ideal as a privacy screen or hedge and as a landscape backdrop. Its canopy can grow 8 to 10 feet in diameter, so it’s important to allow enough room for the plant to grow properly.

Palmco is a leading supplier of field grown Arecas in a variety of sizes.

Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis)

This slow-growing palm has a uniquely shaped trunk (bottle-shaped) and averages 5 to 7 feet in height. It doesn’t produce many fronds but they are long and graceful. The Bottle Palm makes an outstanding accent palm in tropical gardens or sheltered entrance areas, and you will often see it in the center of a circular driveway.

This variety is drought-tolerant, but freezing or sub-freezing temperatures can kill it. This is an excellent container palm since it grows so slowly.

Maypan Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera)

The Maypan Coconut, which originates in Jamaica, is a single-trunk palm that can grow from 50 to 80 feet tall, with a moderate growth rate. It is a hybrid and has been engineered to be an exceptionally cold hardy palm.

The Maypan has a high salt tolerance and the ability to grow in full the sun, making it ideal for growing on or near the beach. And you never have to worry about pruning it; when a frond dies or a coconut is ripe, it will fall from the tree.

Palmco only grows coconuts from Jamaican Certified seeds.
