Georgia Palm Trees

Georgia Palm Trees

Palmco is Florida’s premier grower and wholesaler of top quality palms.

Whether you need a solitary showstopper or lots of palms to make your Georgia landscape stand out, we have a wide variety of palm trees available.

Established in 1984 on Pine Island, Florida, Palmco has 600 acres planted with the choicest varieties of palms and bamboos, ranging from the exotic and rare to the most common and abundant.

We are dedicated to providing landscape architects, landscapers and wholesale buyers with quality plants at reasonable prices.

Before you buy, consider what the palm’s mature size will be.

Some palm varieties grow rather quickly and can reach heights of 50 feet or more. Ignoring this factor may result in the trees overpowering the landscape, interfering with overhead power lines, or threatening structures.

Palms that Grow Well in Georgia

With hot summers and mild winters, the humid subtropical climate around Atlanta, Albany, Savannah, Macon and Augusta, is suitable for growing many varieties of palms, such as:

Canary Palm or Canary Island Date Palm

Valued for its bold appearance and extreme hardiness, this palm grows exceptionally well throughout much of the southern U.S.

The majestic shaft has a nut that resembles a pineapple (it’s sometimes called the Pineapple Palm), and is topped with a huge crown of 40 to 50 large leaves with two rows of 80 to 100 leaflets. The feathery fronds can grow up to 18 feet long and the canopy can reach a massive 50 or 60 feet. This palm is not self-cleaning and will need to be pruned properly to maintain its beautiful appearance.

The Canary Palm can survive everything from partial shade to full sun and is well-suited to USDA Zones 8b to 11.

Chinese Fan Palm

Sometimes called the Fountain Palm, this handsome palm is another favorite in Florida and Georgia landscapes.

It has a wide-spreading crown with bright green fan-shaped leaves that are divided into about 75 segments. The fronds droop downward gracefully, creating a fountain-like effect. Although Chinese Fan Palms stay low to the ground when young, they will eventually grow to about 25 feet. Palmco offers single, double, triple and multi configurations. You may also have a preference for the look and feel of the Chinese Fan’s trunk which can be accented with a Diamond or Palmco Cut.

This palm is well-suited to USDA Zones 9a to 11.

Queen Palm

Native to Brazil and Argentina, Queen Palms grow best in full sun, growing as much as 6 feet a year to 30 or 40 feet.

Their trunks are singular, gray, and smooth with scars of old fronds. The lacy fronds are dark green and pinnate with double rows of leaflets. Waxy flower clusters burst from large pods during the summer. In early winter, green date clusters appear. The spherical-shaped dates eventually turn bright orange and hang in long clusters. Careful pruning of the stalks will keep them from littering the area.

The Queen Palm thrives in Zones 9b through 11.

Palmco has many other varieties of palm trees for sale that will flourish in your Georgia landscape.
