We understand that looking for wholesale clumping bamboo might be a completely new thing to you. But, at Palmco, you can get all the information you need to make an educated purchase for your clientele.

Established in 1984 on Pine Island, Florida, Palmco has over 600 acres of palm trees and bamboos, ranging from the exotic and rare to the most plentiful and widely used.

Wholesale Clumping BambooOur 16 beautiful varieties of clumping bamboo range from dwarf to mid-sized to giant bamboos.

Every plant is nurtured to produce only the healthiest, strongest specimens. Clumpers make excellent, fast-growing, evergreen hedges and spectacular ornamental specimens.

In contrast to running bamboos which spend their first few years of growth establishing a root system, clumping varieties grow quickly and may reach full height in four to six years, depending on the growing conditions.

It’s crucial, however, to choose a variety that will grow in your climate.

At Palmco, we continuously research and acquire new clumping species to evaluate them for their suitability to our Southwest Florida subtropical climate.

The most cold-hardy of the clumpers are the Bambusa multiplex and Bambusa textilis varieties. They will generally remain evergreen to around 12° to 15°F, and our Florida temperatures rarely drop below this.

Some popular Bambusa varieties include:

Graceful Bamboo– As the name suggests, this Chinese variety, also called Slender Weavers or Bambusa textilis gracilis is the most graceful of all bamboos.

It has few lower branches on mature culms, so its attractive 1-inch diameter canes can be easily seen without having to prune the plant. Graceful Bamboos have an upright growth pattern and are very well-behaved.

Growing to a typical height of 25 feet, they are very hardy and will fit nicely in any city or country landscape, including small, narrow yards.

Asian Lemon- Asian Lemon bamboo or Bambusa eutuldoides viridi-vittata.

is great for both aesthetic applications and privacy screening. It is a tight clumping bamboo that reaches heights of up to 25 feet, which makes it great for screening. It also features deep, impressive colors that attract the eye immediately, making it a great choice as a centerpiece.

Asian lemon can be used to screen an area with respect to privacy, sound, light, or wind. It can be planted in dense rows that allow it to form a thick barrier between areas.

When using this bamboo as a focal point, trim the lower branches to the desired height to show off the thick-walled culms (canes). The new culms or shoots have pink and peach tones with green stripes. When established, the culms are lemon yellow with green stripes and dark green leaves.

The Asian Lemon bamboo would be a great addition to any home or garden.

Green Stripe Bamboo- This medium-sized clumping variety is less widely known compared to other varieties but has beautiful foliage with striking culms.

Bambusa dolichomerithalla ‘Green Stripe’ can grow to about 30 feet tall and has 1-1/2 to 2-inch wide yellow-green (aging to orange-green) culms with deep green stripes.  You may also hear this species referred to as Green Stripe Blowgun Bamboo.

Originating in Taiwan, it is popular for craftwork, and its long straight culms which span two feet between internodes were ideal for making blowguns.

Palmco produces only the healthiest, strongest palms and bamboos for the wholesale market, nurturing each plant in our moderately warm, fertile environment.
