Minimizing Noise Pollution

The most visually appealing way to block noise is with a dense growth of plants. Some trees and shrubs are better at this than others, particularly those with evergreen low-hanging foliage and branches that extend to the ground. The Mast Tree, or Polyalthia longifolia ‘Pendula,’ belongs to the Annonaceae family, one of the largest families of flowering plants, commonly known as the custard apple family, which is populated by familiar relatives, such as Ylang-Ylang (Cananga odorata), Soursop (Annona muricata), and Sugar Apple (Annona squamosa).

One of the tree’s best attributes is its ability to form a solid wall of green while using just a small amount of ground space. Mast Trees grow quite tall, but stay slender. They grow to 30 to 45 feet tall by 4 to 5 feet wide at maturity and provide an excellent vertical accent in any landscape.
