Tampa Palm Tree Nursery
With over 600 acres in production, Palmco’s palm tree nursery offers 20-plus varieties of choice palms to Tampa based professionals in the landscaping industry.
We assist landscape contractors, architects and developers with everything they need to beautify a resort, golf course, commercial properties, residential estates and more, by digging and delivering large trees and specimen trees throughout Florida the U.S. and worldwide.
Majestic palm trees can be planted as single specimens, in clumps, or in groves.
Group several together to make an impressive statement.
They are ideal around public buildings, in parks, along avenues, around swimming pools and outdoor living areas, or wherever you need a bold effect or tropical look.
The largest varieties of palms grow 40 to 100 feet tall. They help define large spaces with strong vertical accents and skyline silhouettes and are particularly useful in large office or residential building complexes.
Some of the best landscape uses for large palm trees include:
- Privacy screens along a property line
- In the center of a circular driveway
- To line avenues and streets
- To flank driveway entrances (in pairs)
- To accent the height of buildings
- As single large specimens
Large Palm Trees for Your Landscape
If you need large palms for your project, here are a few of our favorites:
Maypan Coconut Palm
The Maypan Coconut (Cocos nucifera), which originates in Jamaica, is a single-trunk palm that can grow from 50 to 80 feet tall, with a moderate growth rate. It is a hybrid and has been engineered to be exceptionally cold hardy. The Maypan has a high salt tolerance and the ability to grow in full the sun, making it ideal for growing on or near the beach. And you never have to worry about pruning it; when a frond dies or a coconut is ripe, it will fall from the tree.
Palmco only grows coconuts from Jamaican Certified seeds.
Royal Palm
Popular along the streets of many cities for their grace and beauty, Royal Palms (Roystonea regia) have a smooth gray trunk, a bright green crownshaft, and dark green arching fronds.
They bloom with yellow flowers in the summer. This massive palm can reach up to 60 or 70 feet tall and 5 to 10 feet wide with a growth rate of around a foot each year. This Cuban palm enjoys a moist, well-drained soil and full sun. It is somewhat cold hardy and can handle light freezes when mature.
Sabal Palm
Also known as the Cabbage Palm, the Sabal Palmetto is Florida’s State Tree.
It is the most widely distributed palm tree in Florida and grows in almost any type of soil, as well as in frosts and freezes. Sabal palms have a slow growth rate but can grow up to 60 feet tall. The large, light green fan leaves emerge from a tight, round, semi self-cleaning crownshaft. They enjoy a sunny moist spot where they can be watered regularly.
The central bud of new fronds gives the palm tree its "cabbage" name, since its shape resembles a cabbage head. This bud is also edible and known as "heart of palm."
Washingtonia
This fast-growing beauty, also known as the Mexican Fan Palm (Washingtonia robusta), is a great choice when you want instant gratification.
This palm can reach heights between 70 feet and 100 feet, which makes it ideal for street planting or large open areas where height isn’t a problem. They are also very cold-hardy and will grow anywhere in Florida as well as the southern parts of Texas and South Carolina.
Palmco has many sizes of palm available at our farm and can mix or match heights for any size job. The knowledgeable staff at our palm tree nursery can help you find the perfect palms for the growing area of Tampa.
