Florida Mast Trees for Sale

Florida Mast Trees for Sale

If you are looking for a vertical accent for your next landscape project, Palmco has Mast Trees for sale. They make excellent tropical substitutes for the Italian Cypress, which seems to dislike the abundant rain and high humidity in Florida.

Palmco serves all of Florida and the contiguous U.S., providing a wide selection of palms, bamboos, and ornamental plants.

Our wholesale nursery and tree farm is known for producing truly beautiful specimens, including one of the most unique South Florida landscape trees – the Mast Tree – a native of India and Sri Lanka that is also known as False Ashoka, Buddha Tree, Indian Mast Tree, and Indian Fir Tree.

The Mast Tree belongs to the Annonaceae family, one of the largest families of flowering plants, commonly known as the custard apple family, which is populated by familiar relatives, such as Ylang-Ylang (Cananga odorata), Soursop (Annona muricata), and Sugar Apple (Annona squamosa).

About Mast Trees

Polyalthia longifolia “Pendula” is a slender, upright evergreen tree, a shape rarely seen in tropical trees. Layers of feathery, wavy-edged leaves hang from drooping branches that closely hug a straight, thin trunk. You may even think the tree has no trunk!

Leaf colors range from coppery brown when new, to light green, to a shiny dark green as they age. The natural color contrast makes a stunning show. In addition, fragrant star-like pale green flowers appear once a year in the spring and typically last for two to three weeks. Due to their color, they are barely noticeable, but attract butterflies and birds.

Mast Trees are fast growing to 30 to 45 feet and need space to stretch out (to a full-grown width of 4 to 5 feet). Be sure to place them at least 10 feet from other trees or shrubs.

Mast Trees in the Landscape

When landscaping luxury residential properties, resort hotels, golf courses, and other locations in South Florida, you have too few choices for tall but narrow columnar tropical trees with beautiful evergreen foliage.

Mast Trees will transform any plain landscape! Landscapers, architects and designers use them to frame entryways, cover vertical drain-pipes, line avenues and driveways, as tall hedges, as architectural accents, and as privacy, noise and windbreak screens. They are great for narrow spaces because they grow quite tall, but stay slender.

To get maximum enjoyment from your trees, plant them in full or partial sun in rich clay, loam or sandy soils, and make sure the soil is well-drained. Mature Mast Trees are moderately drought-tolerant and salt-tolerant. They have very little leaf drop, no notable pest issues, and require little to no maintenance.

Although fairly new to Florida grower production, Mast Trees are destined to become a popular landscaping choice. You’ll find wholesale trees for sale at Palmco that will thrive in USDA Zones 10a and 11. Get in touch with us at (239) 283-1329 to find out more about them!
