An Environmentally Conscious Growing Process
Florida’s coastal estuaries are under continual pressure from runoff pollution. One of our proudest accomplishments is the regimen we use to grow happy, healthy palms while protecting our island paradise.
Our trees are nourished by state-of-the-art irrigation, fertilization and soil moisture monitoring stations that prevent toxins from leaching into the surrounding soil and ground water.
Our “green” growing process involves no restricted-use chemicals. To reduce our water usage and improve our soil, we recycle all plant waste into mulch for our palm tree beds.
Feeding a tree properly throughout its life can determine its eventual grade. Palmco specializes in growing Florida Fancy (FF) graded palms, which are exceptionally healthy and perfectly formed and foliated.
We welcome you to tour our farm and palm tree fields to check out the top quality of our specimens and our growing process.
If you’re unable to get here, our customer service experts will listen to your jobsite requirements and tag the palms that match your specs. They will email pictures of the tagged palm trees for your approval and arrange shipping or pick-up of the palms you purchase.
Palm Trees for USDA Zone 9b
Summer in Deltona and the area around Lake Monroe are hot and humid, while winters are generally dry and mild. Light winter freezes are possible, but hard freezes (under 28 °F) are rare, placing the region in USDA Zone 9b.
Palmco grows many desirable palms that will thrive in this area of Volusia County, including these two beauties:
Silver Bismarckia Palm
Bismarckia nobilis is one of the most spectacular fan palms in Zones 8b to 11. It can grow to heights of 30 feet, so plan on giving it plenty of space. Silver Bismarckias have bluish-white fan-shaped costapalmate leaves with bends in the middle that make them look folded. They reach 10 feet across and make an unforgettable statement in any landscape. Give this palm plenty of sun and water and you’ll be rewarded with a striking specimen. They are also very cold hardy, and can handle mild frosts and freezes with little to no damage.
Sylvestris Palm
This is one classy palm! You may recognize it by one of its other names – Sylvester Palm, Toddy Palm, Sugar Date Palm, Wild Date Palm, and India Date Palm. Reaching heights of 30 to 40 feet, this beauty has a slender trunk with an interesting diamond pattern created by leaf scars. We can do a special cut to make the deep orange of the trunk really stand out in your landscape. It’s very cold hardy, drought-tolerant and moderately-salt-tolerant, and is an excellent choice for avenue planting or as an accent tree in Zones 8b to 11.
With 600-plus acres in production, Palmco is one of the largest palm and bamboo plantations in North America, serving clients in the contiguous U.S. and overseas.
