We help landscape contractors, architects and developers beautify resorts, golf courses, commercial properties, residential estates and more, by providing large transplants and specimens throughout the U.S. and worldwide.

Our materials can be sourced in 3, 7, 15 and 25-gallon containers or as field grown bamboo. Field grown is your best bet when you need instant gratification.

Clumping Bamboo Suitable for USDA Zones 9b and 10a

Many varieties of bamboo love the climate of Tampa and other Gulf Coast cities like Clearwater, Largo and St. Petersburg. When you need bamboo to make an impressive landscape statement in Zones 9b and 10a, Palmco can help.

Popular varieties include:

Alphonse Karr Bamboo: This variety is cold-hardy to about 15° F. Alphonse Karr has low water requirements and is extremely cold-hardy once established. It’s a dense Chinese bamboo that grows to 20 to 25 feet with 1- inch diameter culms and is one of the best screen or hedge bamboos. The plant has striking yellow culms and random green stripes and provides a golden glow in the garden. New shoots and culms are often pink.

Monastery Bamboo: Originating in Thailand, this beautiful, graceful bamboo has strong and extremely straight culms that can grow to 40 feet in areas where the soil is well-drained but consistently moist. It features small leaves on the top third that give it a cloud-like effect. Monastery bamboo is perfect for tight spaces as a specimen or accent, and makes an excellent windbreak. It is cold-hardy to 25 °F.

Nana Bamboo: This stunning bamboo from Thailand is a beautiful ornamental with very small leaves, an upright growth habit and thick culms. It is naturally branchless near the ground and tends to arch at the top, creating a feathery, delicate umbrella-like canopy. Nana’s medium height (to 25 feet) makes a beautiful statement in any landscape. It is cold-hardy to 28 °F.

Tropical Blue Bamboo: Cold-hardy to about 20° F, this popular medium-tight clumper has light green leaves and nicely spaced thin-walled culms that develop a stunning powder-like, soft, light blue bloom. It requires a little more room than one of the tight clumping varieties. At a maximum height of about 35 feet with 3-inch diameter culms, Tropical Blue Bamboo is appropriate as an ornamental or as a dense privacy hedge.
