Let’s Talk about the King Alexander Palm

Also known as the King Palm, the King Alexander truly lives up to its name. It makes a stately accent piece within any landscape and will even present well when included in a grouping of palms.

King Alexander palms are from Australia and will do best in USDA Zones 10B-11. They provide your property with a tropical feel and are a highly desirable centerpiece that can reach heights of 40 feet tall.

King Alexanders are very unique palms. Their trunks will remind you of the Adonidia, while their fronds are reminiscent of coconut palms. And, they are more cold hardy that both the Adonidia and Maypan Coconut palms, able to withstand temperatures as low as 26 degrees Fahrenheit.

If drought conditions are in play, the King Alexander can endure them for a limited amount of time, but it prefers to be regularly watered and fed. If you want to see faster growth in this palm, it is highly recommended that you set up a schedule to feed and water consistently. But, make sure that the palm is planted in well-draining soil.

You can get King Alexanders as singles, doubles, and triples. At Palmco, we grow all three of these configurations. We are certain that whichever size you opt for, your clients will be ecstatic about its appearance in their landscapes.

One word of advice before deciding on this palm is that, if you are planting on the edge of zone 10B, you will need to take into account the wintery dry winds. These inevitably cause leaf tip burns on the King Alexander. So, planting in a protected space is highly recommended. Consider placing it in an area with taller plants and trees or in an alcove that is protected from the wind.
