Before you start selecting palm trees for your project, it is important to understand the three grades defined in the Florida Grades and Standards Manual:
- Florida Fancy (FF) is defined as, “an exceptionally healthy and vigorous palm that is perfectly formed and foliated (subject to the natural growth of the species).” This is the most desirable grade and the grade of our trees at Palmco. The prices of FF-grade palms, however, may not fit every customer’s budget.
- Florida No. 1 is defined as, “a healthy and vigorous palm that is well formed and foliated (subject to the natural growth of the species).” This grade of trees is perfectly acceptable to many customers and easier on the budget.
- Florida No. 2 is defined as, “a healthy palm that is fairly well formed with fair foliage quality (subject to the natural growth of the species).” This grade of tree is not used as frequently as FF and #1 grade trees.
Know Your USDA Zone
South Florida can be divided into 3 zones – 10A, 10B and 11 – based on the average high and low temperatures in the different regions. Englewood is located in Zone 10A.
