Mast Trees Pinellas County Florida – Wholesale
Give your Pinellas County, Florida landscape some height without taking up a lot of space. Wholesale Mast Trees from Palmco create an excellent vertical accent. Although fairly new to Florida grower production, they are destined to become a popular landscaping choice.
Pinellas County, like the rest of the Tampa Bay area, has a humid subtropical climate, resulting in warm, humid summers with frequent thunderstorms, and drier winters. With rare incidents of freezing winter temperatures, the Zone 9B to 10A climate is perfect for the Mast Tree.
The Mast Tree, or Polyalthia longifolia ‘Pendula,’ belongs to the Annonaceae family, one of the largest families of flowering plants, commonly known as the custard apple family, which is populated by familiar relatives, such as Soursop (Annona muricata), Sugar Apple (Annona squamosa) and Ylang-Ylang (Cananga odorata).
The Mast Tree grows in a symmetrical column to 30 to 45 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. It may appear to have no branches, but its entire length is covered by layers of feathery, wavy-edged leaves that do, in fact, hang from drooping branches and closely hug a straight, slim trunk.
The Mast Tree’s lush foliage ranges from light lime green to coppery brown to a glossy dark green as the trees mature. Leaves remain on the tree in all seasons, almost completely covering the trunk and creating an eye-catching and colorful focal point. For a brief period in spring or summer, the tree blooms with masses of light green, star-shaped flowers.
Mature Mast Trees are moderately drought-tolerant and salt-tolerant. They have very little leaf drop, no notable pest issues, and require little to no maintenance.
Transform Your Landscape
When landscaping luxury residential properties, resort hotels, golf courses, and other locations in Florida, there are too few choices for tall but narrow columnar tropical trees with beautiful evergreen foliage. Mast Trees are a stunning option. They are ideal for use as:
- Avenue or driveway plantings
- Windbreaks
- Noise pollution screens
- Privacy screens
- Privacy screens around pools
- Living fences
- Tall hedges
- Focal specimens
- Architectural accents
- Container plants
Mast Trees prefer full or partial sun and well-drained soil. Mature trees are drought-tolerant and suitable for xeriscaping. Young plants need protection from winds, but the trees are remarkably flexible when mature and will bend like bamboos in a storm.
