Jupiter Florida Mast Trees - Wholesale

When you want to transform a landscaping project in Jupiter, Florida from boring to amazing, consider the beautiful Mast Tree from Palmco!

The warm, humid, subtropical climate of Palm Beach County, Florida, places Jupiter, its northernmost town, in USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 10A. Summers are typically hot, with temperatures averaging in the low 90s. Winters are mild to warm, with lows rarely dropping below 50°F.

Mast Trees, or Polyalthia longifolia “Pendula”, are beautiful columnar-shaped evergreen trees that will flourish beautifully in USDA Zones 10A to 11 and the warmest areas of Zone 9B. They are not recommended for use north of coastal Hillsborough County on Florida’s west coast or Indian River County on the east coast.

The tree’s dense wavy-edged leaves start out a coppery brown color, turn a light lime green as they age, and eventually become a shiny dark green. They remain on the tree in all seasons, almost completely covering the trunk, and the natural color contrast of the leaves makes a spectacular show.

Using Mast Trees in Your Landscape

Mast Trees are perfect for narrow areas because they grow quite tall but stay slender. In India and Sri Lanka where they originate, the leaves are used as temple decorations and the trees are commonly used as street trees to reduce noise pollution.

One of the tree’s best attributes is its ability to form a solid wall of green while using just a small amount of ground space. They grow to 30 to 45 feet tall by 4 to 5 feet wide at maturity and providing an excellent vertical accent in any landscape.

They are ideal for:

  • lining driveways or avenues
  • privacy screening
  • tall hedges
  • shade
  • architectural accents
  • noise pollution screening
  • windbreaks in open areas
  • xeriscaping

How to Grow and Care for Mast Trees

Plant Mast Trees in full or partial sun in rich clay, loam or sandy soil, and make sure the soil is well-drained. When watering, lightly soak the soil and do not water again until the top two inches have dried out. Overwatering may ultimately kill the trees. They don’t like to be wet and will rot if left sitting in water for extended periods.

Mast Trees are moderate growers and require space to stretch out (to a full-grown width of 4 to 5 feet). Choose a location at least 10 feet from other trees or shrubs.
