Melbourne Florida Climate
Brevard County, also known as the “Space Coast,” is located along Florida’s eastern peninsula in USDA Zone 9b. The region has a humid subtropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. Temperatures can vary dramatically from north to south and east to west within the county.
Melbourne, in particular, is located far enough south that it straddles subtropical and tropical climates, so all months have a mean temperature of 64.4°F or higher. Although there is no record of snow or snow flurries in Melbourne for the last 150 years, the area does have an average of 2 or 3 days of frost in winter.

Types of Palm Trees
Most palm trees can be differentiated by their fronds:

It needs moist, well-drained soil and plenty of water, as well as shade to keep the fronds dark green.
No damage will occur to the Lady Palm at 25°F, but temperatures that drop to 15-18°F can be fatal.
This beauty, also called Chinese Windmill Palm and the Chusan Palm, has palmate fronds that grow upward. Each frond has about 30 deeply divided leaf segments ranging from yellow-green to dark green. The fronds vibrate in the wind and look as though they are spinning… like a windmill. It grows very slowly and can reach 40 feet tall, but most top out at about 25 feet.
Windmills love sunny, moist and well-drained areas, but shield them from saltwater spray. This palm is stunning when planted in multiples.
